Singer Oxlade reveals his past struggles with homelessness and working as a tout
Multi-talented Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman popularly known as ‘Oxlade‘ reveals his past struggles with homelessness and working as a tout after he left his home in pursuit of his music career.
“I ran away from home at some point… I sold bus tickets and I sold food at parties” He said.
The singer in a recent interview also stated that he had to leave his home because his dad didn’t originally support his decision of becoming a musician.
“Honestly, he [my dad] was indifferent at first. But my stubbornness and consistency paid off [laughs].” he added. He also added that he ran away from home at some point in his life to pursue his music career personally, and had to do all sort of stuffs which included selling bus tickets and selling foods at parties in order to survive.
Adding to that, he is from the ‘Streets of Surulere’ in Lagos, “Surulere is like an Institution of it own, if you can survive there, you can survive anywhere.” He said.
He later added that the experience he had in the ghetto really helped him in making better life decisions.
